Special Weekend Breaks for National Forest 10K Runners

Tuesday, 24th August 2010

Conkers Camping and Caravanning Club Site is literally next door to Conkers, the award-winning visitor attraction where the 10K will start, and is located beside the Conkers Circuit – perfect for family cycling.  This friendly site has full facilities and is open all year round.

But if runners prefer a bit of luxury, Upper Rectory Farm Cottages in nearby Appleby Magna have one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom self-catering cottages available and will be giving discounts for runners who make a long weekend of it. The luxury cottages are set in the heart of the countryside, ideal for both large family parties (up to 24) or cosy romantic retreats for two, and make a great central base to visit Conkers, Twycross Zoo and other local attractions.

The National Forest 10K will set off from Conkers at 10:15am.  Race Director Alistair Chambers from Ivanhoe Runners said: “It is a brilliant route, taking in almost every feature you can think of.  It should also be a quick course with the potential for very fast times!”

There will also be a mile-long fun run around the trails in Conkers grounds for children and families beforehand, at 9:30am. All children who enter the fun run will get free entry to Conkers for the day, provided they are with a full-paying adult, allowing them to enjoy hundreds of indoor interactive exhibits and all of the great outdoor attractions, including an assault course, adventure playground, barefoot walk, interactive floor, sculpture, woodland, nature trails, lakes and the Conkerchoo train ride.

Entries for the 10K must be made in advance.  Applications forms are available from the National Forest Company website www.visitnationalforest.co.uk as well as from the running clubs.

The clubs welcome new members of all abilities.  Visit the websites for details on joining.

The National Forest 10K is being organised by members of the local running clubs Ivanhoe Runners, South Derbyshire Road Runners and Hermitage Harriers, in partnership with National Forest Company, South Derbyshire District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and Conkers.
